When you went from Edinburgh to Aberdeen
You had to cross the water inbetween

So they built a bridge to take the strain
They built a bridge to take the train
They built a bridge to take the railway line
...A hundred years ago travelling north
You had to take the ferry to cross the Forth
And save us time.

So it's one coat of yellow and one coat of red
With the Ferth down below and the sky overhead
In six years or so when the painting's done
We can start again where the job was first begun...
